Chictopia.10 Conference a Success!

Last September 12 was probably one of the best days of my Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week – thanks to Chictopia! It was the day of the Chictopia.10 Conference and Juicy Couture After Party and it was definitely one of the most memorable days of my New York trip! And I kid you not! It was truly an awesome event – having to learn so much more about fashion blogging, meeting the fashionable people of Chictopia and – I won’t deny it – getting loads of freebies!

I admit, the day didn’t start too well for me. It was raining early morning and my eyes – puffy and looked so tired! WHAAAA!!! Fashion disaster I tell yah! I didn’t even get to style my hair coz I was running late. Good thing when I checked in at the Union Square Ballroom where the Chictopia.10 Conference was being held, the event hasn’t started yet.

They were serving coffee and tea before the discussions started. I was overwhelmed with the beautiful and fashionable ladies and gents out there. I am so lucky to be part of the Chictopia community and lucky to be there in New York, attending fashion shows during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and attending the Chictopia.10 Social Media Conference and Juicy Couture after-party. I’m having the time of my life. πŸ™‚ I know some of the fashion bloggers out there have been doing this for quite some time, but please bear with me since it was my first time. LOL!

So now let me share with you my experience during the Chictopia.10 Conference with these photos… Sorry they’re a handful! And again, sorry they’re quite blurry. I had a lot of stuff with me (because I changed outfits) so I didn’t bring my big camera. Instead, I settled for my old point and shoot.

Above is the Chictopia 10 booklet… Asked my new found friends who I’m sitting with in our table to write down their blogs too. πŸ™‚

Above, you’ll see the schedule of activities πŸ™‚

And turn the page once more and you’ll see me!!! Weee!!! I am so stupid because I didn’t notice my photo until I got back home! LOL!

Below are some of the photos I took before the event started:

Some of the fabulous ladies and a guy from my table πŸ™‚

Helen Zhu, CEO of Chictopia:

Below from left to right: Kristine Kirong, Chictopia Editor and Moderator of the event. Panel 1: Cate Corcoran – Technology Editor of Women’s Wear Daily; Kristin Burrows – President of KEDS; Catherine Everett – blogger, Silhouette Girl.

Panel 1 talked about “THE NEW TRENDSETTERS: WHO SETS THE TRENDS?” My fave panelist was Cate T. Corcoran of WWD. She really knows a lot about her industry and understands fashionistas, trends and social media or basically what’s happening in the fashion world!

My Fashion Juice, Annie of Time Enough for Drums, Jazzy of Transient Withdrawal – the three of us are the Contributing Editors sponsored by Chictopia to attend the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week shows in New York City! πŸ™‚ There were other editors who also attended the shows with us.

Style Sip Lounge: the freebies…

Was aiming for that band jacket but someone beat me to it. LOL! πŸ™‚

And oh my goodness… this is the look of a haggard MFJ! Of all the days… my eyes looked so sleepy!!!

On MFJ: Kashieca white tank top adorned with silver and glass stones; Rogan for Target army green sleeveless top worn as vest; Kathie Lee damas pants; Forever 21 strappy wedges; Chanel medallion tote; necklaces that I made; bangles from Landmark, Philippines.

Above Panel 2, left to right: EJ Samson of Teen Vogue; Liz Cherkasova of Late Afternoon; Dave Cook of The Find; Robin Creen, KMart Chief Marketing Officer

Panel 2 talked about “VISIBILITY IN THE ONLINE WORLD”. Highlights of this discussion:

“Be authentic and true to who you are.”

“Blogging doesn’t stop after you’ve published your post. You have to advertise it through social media to gain traffic, e.g. twitter, fb, chictopia, etc.”

“Stay relevant and influential and people will follow you.”

“You are your brand!”

My lunch… okay, I didn’t finish all that. I just tried the chicken tortilla wrap on the top left. The right most is the Roast Beef sandwich which I’ve barely eaten. I munched on the salads though – the greens, potato and macaroni – all good πŸ™‚

Above Panel 3, left to right: Kristine Kirong (moderator); Francesca Helina, Product Marketing of Twitter; Dina Fierro, Executive Director of Fashion & Beauty, Attention; Β Vanessa Hong – blogger, The Haute Pursuit; and Albert Chen, Account Strategist from Google.

PANEL 3 talked about “SEARCH VS. SOCIAL MEDIA: WHAT DRIVES TRAFFIC?” I particularly love Vanessa Hong, she knows her stuff very well. There’s not a lot of fashion bloggers who know about SEO and such.

“You want people to like you and follow you.”

taking a break…

I think I missed taking a photo of Panel 4: Susan Kroger, Founder & Chief Creative Officer of Modcloth; Dino-Ray Ramos, Contributing Editor of San Francisco Chronicle; Helen Zhu, CEO of Chictopia; and Jasmine Hwang, blogger of Transient Withdrawal.

Panel 4 talked about the “EFFECT OF TECHNOLOGY: HAS THE INDUSTRY BECOME MORE INCLUSIVE?” My fave panelists for this segment: Dino-Ray Ramos – super witty and great sense of humor, plus Jasmine Hwang – real nice and friendly blogger that I got to meet there. πŸ™‚

That’s about it readers! Whew! I know it was a long post. And I didn’t even get the chance to take a photo of the swag bag that was given to all attendees. Will try to gather the goodies together and take a photo! I’ll be blogging about the Chictopia 10 Juicy Couture After Party next! I know. It’s taking me forever to post about my bargain hunts and purchases! I am so excited!!!
