There are so many reasons why I love Austin and one of them would be, SxSW. For those who don’t know already know, it means South by South West – one of the biggest media, film and music fests in the US. One flocked by hundreds of artists/musicians and yep, celebrities too. One flocked by a gazillion of tech-savvy people to know what the latest buzz or trend is in technology. It is a convergence of emerging talent in the music business, independent films and the latest in technology…
…and now, they are introducing fashion in the picture, thanks to StyleX (pronounced as Style by). If New York has Fashion Week, Austin has StyleX.
SxSW is the biggest and most anticipated convergence of all things music, film and technology. Each year, SxSW has been a launching pad for new creative content. New media presentations, concerts and film screenings provide buzz-generating exposure for creators and compelling entertainment for audiences that people (especially in the industry) will be talking about in the next 6 months or so.
During SxSW, hotels are fully-booked and it’s almost impossible to find a hotel in the city center. But there are a ton of options like budget lodging/motels, house rentals, room rentals and well, maybe going a couple of miles away from the main venue. So, in case you are planning to go next year, make sure to book a hotel at least a month in advance.
And in case you are serious about attending the panels/conference and trade shows inside the Austin Convention Center, the badge required to get in, isn’t exactly cheap. Let me just give you a peek.
But regardless of the price, thousands of people still flock to Austin for the panels and trade shows. In fact, in 2010 alone, SXSW’s economic impact was estimated at more than $113 million with more than 36,000 official badge holders.
But I know not all of us have that much money to spare. So you’re probably wondering what else is there to do when you don’t have that budget? Don’t worry. SxSW has a lot of things going on for you and there are a lot of events that are free. You can get inside the convention center and check out which exhibits are free to get in. Plus, most of the fun things like concerts are free and are scattered all over the city of Austin! What’s even better? A lot of free stuff are being passed along too. From food to drinks (yes even beer), bags, posters, samples and other promotional materials. Oh, and StyleX is free too! 🙂 Let me share with you a video I took to get you in on what’s happening inside the Austin Convention Center during SxSW, especially at the Exhibit Hall 4 that housed the StyleX Fashion Expo!
I’ll be sharing another video next time but it’s gonna be the about the music side of SxSW! 🙂 UPDATE: here they are…

SxSW Explanation from CNN
So anyway, I was at the StyleX Fashion Expo last Saturday, March 19 for two things: (1) to check what StyleX has to offer to the SxSW plate, and (2) to attend the panel discussions. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the first one. At least I was early and front row for the second panel, which was more important to me as a blogger. Two gorgeous bloggers (Indiana Adams of Adored Austin and Kelly Framel of The Glamourai) were included in the second panel, “Technology is Cool, but Technology+Fashion is Cooler” so it was a must for me to go. Attending panel discussions and blogger conferences are so important to bloggers like me because not only do we get to learn the secrets/tips of the more successful or professional bloggers out there but we get to network with people in the industry. They are key to building traffic to our websites/blogs. And what’s even better? Companies and business owners who are also attending and sponsoring the event get to know you and may possibly offer you sponsorships and collaborations and I am proof to that. I got a new sponsor after attending the Texas Style Council Conference! Yay!!! Stay tuned for that! 🙂 Now some photos from the StyleX Fashion Expo. And here are some more photos of my outfit and the beautiful Austin wall along Annie Street! 🙂 Xoxo, Cris.
