Today we’re talking about overalls. I know, I know. Before you raise those eyebrows and tell me to leave the overalls to the kids, just hear me out… or perhaps just see these celebrities wearing overalls and you decide. From Sarah Jessica Parker, Alexa Chung, Rihanna, Diane Kruger, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens and Alessandra Ambrosio (to name a few), each celebrity has her own way of styling the overall.
Today I’m sharing a maxi denim outfit that I wore on our second day at The Sanford House. The maxi dress to me, is the perfect travel companion because it’s so easy to pack in your bag, doesn’t take a lot of space but packs a punch of effortless style! Wear it on it’s own when it’s sizzling hot, or layer with a denim button down shirt (that you can use with each and every outfit you packed) when it gets chilly indoors or at night.
I think the start of Spring brought along with it a ton of opportunities. And so before I fully embrace the refreshing change, I took a last gloomy look at a leopard-maxi-oxblood combo but with a denim jacket update that is a hot trend for Spring 2013!
I may not be rich and/or skinny but I have my Rich & Skinny jeans with me… and I’m all good! 🙂 This is probably one of the softest jeans I have. So comfy that I forget they are actually denims! The inside just feels so luxurious (complete with all the silky leopard print trims) and this dark blue color makes casual dressing ever so chic.
This outfit worn yesterday for a quick trip to the store, is literally a hodge podge of everything – from lace to denim, ruffle to metal studs and varying colors. It’s a mix of contrasting styles. While it’s a very casual outfit, it is far from looking like so – thanks to all the details that give this outfit depth and make it nowhere near casual or lousy. The top I’m wearing is a sleeveless cotton ruffled shirt that is perfect for summer. This cropped denim jacket is just a cute add-on or layer for when you go inside a building where the AC is set to full blast. Well, what do you think?
Outfit of the day consists of a denim top mixed with a black maxi skirt. Some people hardly wear denim tops because they don’t know what to pair it with. It’s probably because people have been so accustomed to wearing denim pants almost everyday for casual outfits and knowing that it’s hard to mix denim on denim, they skip on the denim top instead. Denim on denim is another topic. They used to say never mix a denim top and a denim bottom. But when done right, it’s actually oh so chic. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about. I’m here to give you ideas on how to wear the denim top.
One great idea? Pair it with a black bottom – be it a maxi skirt, knee-length skirt, black trousers or black shorts – in sheer, cotton, jersey, leather or even lace among other types of fabrics! I wore a maxi skirt because it’s just too cold outside. Of course I only wore this at home. But if I were to wear this outside, well, I’d be wearing thermal tops and leggings plus some booties. Oh, and of course, I’ll be needing a long thick coat! 🙂 Actually, it’s one of my planned outfits for NY Fashion Week. But I’ll have to test it out first and see if it’s actually alright to wear this in freezing temperatures.
Oh, and before I forget, don’t forget to add a pop of color such as a camel or brown belt and some accessories to liven up the whole outfit! 🙂
On MFJ: Gap denim top; Tory Burch belt; random black skirt; Jeffrey Campbell Mariel wedges; Forever 21 hat; Alexander Wang Darcy Hobo; vintage Peacock necklace; Landmark leopard bangles; vintage gold cuff I’m selling here.
Don’t we all dream of sunny days, the beach, and wearing shorts and sleeveless tops at this time of the year? I know I do. I can’t wait to go outdoors and frolic under the sun. It’s just no fun to go running around in this kind of weather. I’m too lazy to go out and do anything at all!!! Don’t get me wrong though, I love me some cool breeze. But when temperatures start dropping below 20 F, I’d rather stay home and cozy up to my Hubby.
Well, the reason for that introduction is because I picked up this romper last weekend for only $7. Can you believe? Well, it’s not surprising to find such a gem at Marshalls. It’s such a perfect piece for Spring and Summer. In fact, I have so many ideas on how to style this one piece and I’ll be sharing that for the next couple of days. I hope you don’t mind. LOL! Well, here it is. The $7 romper by Derek Heart.
And for an outfit post, I wore the romper for a Spring look – thus the little scarf and cardigan. 🙂
On MFJ: Derek Heart denim romper; Jessica Simpson Dany sandals; Forever 21 cashmere blend cardigan; dollar store green scarf; Callanan fedora hat; H&M woven bracelet; Jacques Lemans F1 chronograph watch; Macy’s gold hoop earrings; bead and chain necklace from my friend in the Philippines.
Here’s how it looks without the cardigan…
So there’s this contest going on at Polyvore featuring Tory Burch… and I decided to create an entry for it. All you have to do is to style an outfit featuring at least one of Tory Burch’s latest denim collection. It’s actually fun to create outfits in Polyvore and I have so many ideas running on my mind. But well, I decided to go with something like this… 🙂
This season is all about blue, denim, florals, and light fabrics. The warmer months of the year has finally come and it’s only appropriate to go with the flow… steer clear of your blacks for a minute and bring out all that is perfect for the Spring and Summer season. It’s time to bring color into your wardrobe!
As I may have mentioned in previous posts or probably something you have already heard or read, blue is the color of the season. And because of that trend, denim also dominates. Denim skirts, denim jeans, denim dresses, denim jackets, and even denim vests are making a comeback on the runway. So if you are in need of some denim fix, one of the brands I recommend is Miss Sixty. They have denim dresses that are oh so cute, not to mention different styles of jeans that are perfect for the season. Just check out this stripe denim dress below and you’ll understand what I’m talking about!
Now isn’t that gorgeous? What makes this dress even more drool-worthy is the stripe detail! It’s so nautical that it’s so appropriate for the season. I love it!
Aside from blue clothing and denim, another popular trend this season are florals and prints. Tribal prints and animal prints continue to be hot. And of course, expect to see a lot more floral dresses in uber light fabrics this Spring and Summer. Oh, and of course, linen will always be a part of the trends during the warmer months of the year. It’s time to take out my colored linen pants and maxi dresses!
If you are looking for sale pieces that will bring Spring and Summer into your closet, why don’t you check out Very.co.uk for some interesting finds. They’ve got a ton of goodies that women will definitely love. I’ve been browsing through the site and I’ve already fallen in love with a lot of pieces. That’s why I think you should check it out too!
Happy Shopping! And stay tuned for more trend reports! 🙂
Not because I’m on a recession does it mean I can’t have the simple pleasures of life… LOL!
I can still shop…
