Recap: Fashion X Dallas

Fashion X Dallas, Recap, Dallas Fashion, fashion show, events

Hey gorgeous people! As I told you in last week’s post, I sent Valery over to Fashion X Dallas. Today’ she’s sharing a recap of this amazing 3-Day event filled with fashion and fun. I’ll stop right here and let her do the talking. Enjoy! – Cris

Hi there! I’m Valery and I blog over at I’m Getting There – mostly about everyday fashion but I throw in some other stuff here and there too! Cris was gracious enough to let me attend Fashion X Dallas on her behalf and let me just tell you guys… it was a doozy! Seeing all so many designers in one spot right here in Dallas was almost too much to handle – it’s been five days and I STILL feel like I haven’t processed everything!

Of course the designer clothes were amazing but one of the best parts was seeing everyone who attended really show out! I know I spent quite a bit of time getting my outfit together – if you’re going to be surrounded by a bunch of fashionistas you’ve gotta make sure you look your best, right?! There wasn’t really a dress code, which made it even more fun – I saw everything from acid wash jumpsuits (yep, I’m looking at you Lisa from DFW Style Daily!) to fur coats and full length gowns. Needless to say, we were all killin’ it.

Important: All of these photos are courtesy of Stephanie Drenka Photography – she’s crazy talented, y’all.

I actually wore a really affordable ensemble! For more details on my outfit, check out this post.

For me, the best part about a runway show is the spectacle of the whole event. The lights, the music, the models, the hair and (of course) the clothes all work together seamlessly (see what I did there?) to bring the designer’s vision to fruition. Although I really enjoyed ALL of the designers, one particularly stood out to me – the collection by Melissa Fleis – you might remember her from season 10 of Lifetime’s Project Runway! The lights went down and I heard the intro to one of my all-time favorite songs – “Long Cool Woman” by the Hollies. You know, the one that plays during the montage in Remember the Titans? No…just me? ANYWAY, it perfectly embodied the sleek silhouettes and straight up “cool” of all the pieces in Melissa’s collection. The models really let the clothes do the talking but still kept a very strong, confident look. Best of all, the pieces were so sophisticated but totally wearable for the everyday lady.

I can’t finish up this post without mentioning the showstopper from Thursday night of Fashion X Dallas… Mysterious by NPN. These gowns were nothing short of magical and he did a perfect job of playing into the spectacle and drama. The first few dresses in the collections were black gowns and then one by one each dress was lighter (and the halos got bigger and bigger), eventually all the dresses were white and the halos were about 2 feet wide. Everything was ethereal and truly breathtaking.

Michelle Lesniak‘s Portland roots came through in her cool and casual line.

This look from Anthony Ryan Auld seemed totally sci-fi inspired in the best way possible.

I am really hoping this is going to be an annual event…if so, Fashion X Dallas 2015 can’t get here soon enough!

NYFW: Academy of Art University Spring 2015 Collection

Academy of Art University, AAU, New York Fashion Week, Spring 2015 Collection, Fashion Show, #NYFW, #MBFW

The Academy of Art University in San Francisco is the first school to produce a fashion show during the most prestigious Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City (aka New York Fashion Week). Academy of Art University (AAU) has always been in my list of shows to see ever since I started going to NYFW in 2010. I love seeing the graduating fashion/design students showcase their work. To me, seeing someone achieve their dreams is such a beautiful thing to witness. So imagine seeing a couple of these graduate students’ works and then seeing them go down the runway to take their bow – such an inspiring moment!

So today, let me share with you the pieces that caught my eye last September 6, 2014 at the Academy of Art University Spring 2015 Collection. 12 talented designers showcased 5 individual collections and added in a collaborative menswear collection too. But among all of the 39 looks, I’ve rounded up my favorites here.

Above, I am IN LOVE with the intelligent mix of layering. The cuts, textures and silhouettes are just all so gorgeous and make an all neutral look not look boring at all. Below, I love the modern black, white and gray pieces with those duster cut coats. Again, great layering.

See above? That burgundy leather – love it. I would actually wear these pieces NOW for FALL season. Agree? I mean bordeaux colors and leather? It only makes sense to wear them during the BER months!

Below, these pieces are probably my most favorite of all and they are the most perfect pieces for Spring! The pants with the sheer panels are just so chic. The all white look in the middle, even paired with a white bandana and mirrored aviators? I feel like wearing it on a trip to St. Tropez! And then the third look with that beautifully cut blazer/short sleeve jacket mixed with that mesh/net-like dress is just so gorgeous and sexy without revealing too much skin. Great work to Szu Chi Huang!

Congratulations to all of the Academy of Art University designers. More power to all and good luck in your career. I hope to see more of you in the future. To view the complete collection from Academy of Art University, you can watch the whole show through the video below. Enjoy!

Esé Azénabor: Phantom of the Runway

Ese Azenabor, fashion show, Phantom of the Runway show, FIG, Dallas

Hey guys, Joy here. There are dreams you aspire as a child that never go away and keep haunting you until you bring them to reality. This is exactly what happened to Esé Azénabor.

She was only 6 years old when she first saw The Phantom of the Opera in London with her father. The draping of the backdrop, set design, rich materials, and elaborate costumes visually fascinated and stimulated her young mind. Who would have thought that a stage musical would mesmerize a little girl so much, she would eventually give up a promising career in the field of Accounting, to design and make clothing? The Phantom of the Opera haunted this little girl and did not give up until it was brought to life.

A Sneak Peek at Dallas Market Center

Sneak Peek, Dallas Market Center, fashion, style, events

A couple of weeks ago, Cynthia Smoot of the popular Dallas blog Oh So Cynthia invited me to Sneak Peek at Dallas Market Center. Cynthia Smoot hosted this year’s Sneak Peek which is an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at fashion trends and Fall 2014 lines with fellow Dallas bloggers. It was a walking tour of the different brands’ showrooms topped off with a fashion show. So I thought I’d share with you some of the fashion knowledge I took home and give you a “Peek at Sneak Peek” (sorry couldn’t resist the pun). Below are some outtakes from the day’s events.

NYFW: Ruffian Fall 2014

One of the final shows I attended during New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 fashion shows is Ruffian. Brian Wolk and Claude Morais are the designers behind Ruffian, the critically acclaimed cult New York label. The designers received the Fashion Group International Rising Star Award and have been featured in countless editorials, including a highly praised profile in Vogue. So I tried my best to get in time even with sore feet and body from the whole day before. I ended up at the end of the runway and I was beyond excited. It was the perfect spot when the models come down from the runway. I was at this room the previous day and I knew I had a great spot. It was a U/M runway of sorts so I knew they’d come out here in front of me. But darn it, the end of the runway I positioned myself at was the opposite! It’s where the models would exit and most of what I saw are their sides and back. Should have asked the coordinators first. But nevertheless, I believe I’ve captured some of the most beautiful backs of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. So please sit back and relax, and enjoy the gorgeous clothes from Ruffian Fall 2014.

Emerson FW14 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week #NYFW

New York Fashion Week, #NYFW, Emerson by JFS, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, #MBFW, Fall Winter 2014 collection, fashion show, new york, event

Last February 7th, my second Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (a.k.a. New York Fashion Week) show for the Fall/Winter 2014 collections was Emerson. For those who are not familiar with the brand, Emerson is the label from designer Jackie Fraser-Swan. The name is inspired by her ancestor, Ralph Waldo Emerson. When I heard about that, I knew I was in for a treat. I was so excited to have received an invitation and the collection did not disappoint. In fact, it’s one of my favorite FW14 collections from #NYFW. The play of girly and edgy was right up my alley. The black, white, sheer and purple? You bet I fell in love with each and every piece.
